This role is the CCO for Ecuador , which is classified as an intermediate ICG country with a complex regulatory environment.

Citibank Ecuador was established in 1960 with two branches, Quito and Guayaquil, serving since our customers without interruption to date operating in Corporate business.

The CCO is the face of Citi in the country, playing the crucial role of leading and protecting the Citi franchise. In both leading the business and protecting the franchise, the CCO must achieve collaboration and alignment across all stakeholders effectively managing a large matrix team.

With the intent of running a lean organization while providing the best experience to our clients and protecting our franchise, we have seen over time that there are some countries in which combining the CCO role with additional responsibilities can bring positive results for our clients, our organization, and the incumbent’s development.

As such, this role will also be the Head of CIB for Ecuador . Additional responsibilities for this part of the role can be found below under the heading Head of CIB Responsibilities’.

Responsibilities : Leading the Business

  • Ensuring that an annual business plan is approved by all respective businesses, product lines and functions as well as the relevant Regional CEO, with performance against that plan monitored regularly.
  • Managing (directly or through matrix reporting, as appropriate) all businesses, product lines and functions based in country.
  • Leading the Public Sector Business, in partnership with the Public Sector Group, including business development and client relationships.
  • Acting as a single, coordinated face to the local marketplace and the lead Citi representative in the country in front of external stakeholders including clients, regulators, government, community, media and actively raising Citi’s profile.
  • Being involved in the decision-making process for acquisitions / investments / divestments for proprietary M&A in the country.
  • Providing oversight for all critical country and other risk limits and for country scenario planning.
  • Ensuring a realistic succession plan is in place for key country roles, to include at minimum permanent members of CCC.
  • In partnership with HR, executing Citi’s Talent agenda and overseeing franchise-wide Talent review and development activities.

  • Protecting the Franchise
  • Protecting Citi’s reputation in the country to the best of his / her ability.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations (local and US).
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements regarding financial inclusion .
  • Ensuring compliance with all corporate policies, including ethical standards, corporate governance standards and business practice requirements.
  • Leading management and coordination of governmental and regulatory relationships.
  • Promoting a strong culture of timely escalation, ethics, compliance and control.
  • Identifying, assessing, mitigating, communicating and anticipating all types of risks through the development and sustainability of appropriate control mechanisms.
  • Leading and coordinating consistent application of Managers Controls Assessment (MCA) process across the franchise.
  • Managing the organization and corporate governance of country-based legal entities and their regulatory reporting.
  • Leading Citi’s response to a franchise-wide event, e.g. crisis or disaster. In such a situation, all business and function heads must work under the CCO’s direction.
  • If there is a Board of Directors of a local incorporated legal entity, ensuring that proper management takes place to include effective working relationships and clear directional understanding with all directors, and in particular, with external directors.
  • Head of CIB for Ecuador Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall parent relationship management of clients and providing a wide range of treasury and corporate finance solutions including : cash management, trade, vendor finance, FX, general credit, loans, debt capital markets, share repurchase, and interest rate and equity derivatives.
  • Work closely with all partners to ensure the Corporate Bank fulfills its role of being at the center of the BCMA's relationship management strategy by driving client planning, product agnostic cross sell, client access, and effective capital allocation within the ICG Coverage Banker proposition.
  • Ensure that client relationships and proposed client solutions meet or exceed internal risk and return standards, including stringent ethical standards, and anticipated future changes in the marketplace
  • Identify cross-sell / multi-product solutions that optimize client experience and meet Citi’s RORC targets
  • Generate new customer value propositions by identifying unmet customer needs
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of Citi’s core product range
  • Leverage social media and digital solutions as appropriate and leads innovative strategies for the clients.
  • Demonstrate understanding of all relevant financial statements and accounting rules alongside return and profitability measures.
  • Demonstrates focus on capital allocation.

  • Proactively anticipate issues and opportunities with firm wide impact and escalates as needed
  • Understand and can explain the Basel III pricing and return implications to clients and product partners
  • Make sound decisions considering the risk-reward trade off and performance objectives
  • Manage all types of risk (e.g. industry, portfolio, diversification, sovereign, commercial, currency, etc.)
  • Demonstrate commitment to Citi's credit and risk processes through day-to-day activities, sharing information related to regulatory changes and advocating process / policy improvements,
  • Is fully conversant in all aspects of policies and procedures related to the business
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree, potentially Masters degree
  • 15+ years of experience, including 10+ years' managerial experience
  • Fully fluent in Spanish and English
  • Experience managing constant regulatory changes and adopting them
  • Previous experience in Risk management, Finance and Controls.
  • Preferred Experience in :

  • Business Management and running a P&L.
  • Business Senior Credit Officer (preferred)
  • Managing medium / large teams across a matrix organization.
  • Relationship / stakeholder management with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cultural sensitivity gained through working in more than one country.
  • Navigating corporate governance frameworks.
  • Understanding and translating global / regional strategy.

  • Sound understanding of capital allocation.
  • Governance :

  • Familiar with Citi’s franchise governance framework.
  • Creates alignment between the global strategy and local execution, while balancing resources among front, middle and back offices.
  • Ensures timely issue escalation within and from the country.
  • Strengthens relationships with external stakeholders, especially regulators.
  • Understands the importance of local corporate governance requirements with the subsidiary board, where applicable, and often with outside directors
