What responsibilities will you have in this role?
Reporting to the Dean, Centre for Construction, Engineering & Technology and a member of the Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET) Senior Management team, the Chair, Engineering Technologies and Architectural Studies is accountable for providing academic and administrative leadership, supervision and direction to staff and students.
Working with key constituencies, the incumbents duties include : strategy development and implementation; maintenance of program quality including maintaining existing relationships with industry partners, including program advisory committees (PACs);
together with the Dean, develops enrolment plans, budget planning and monitoring, and carries out human resource management.
Ensures effective use of physical, financial and instructional resources; develops and implements new programs, pathways, articulation agreements based on internal and external needs.
Works collaboratively with other CCET managers in the response to RFPs in order to secure funding for projects including research and program projects.
Participates in fundraising to secure financial support and resources from stakeholders and partners, both public and private including student scholarships.
Works with key internal and external stakeholders ensures program development and planning is on-going to meet future needs of stakeholders and aligns with the academic strategy that facilitates ongoing review of existing programs to reflect changing industry needs.
Manages dispute resolution for student issues; ensures effective supervision of teaching and learning processes.
Conducts investigations and initiates the problem solving process of disputes involving faculty, staff and students using Colleges policies and procedures.
Directs the administrative processes associated with scheduling and timetables and the administrative processes associated with faculty workload.
Participates and chairs in a number of departmental and / or cross-divisional academic and / or operational committees including Academic Chairs and Directors Committee, College Degree committee, coordinators, support staff meetings.
Promotes, coaches and monitors ongoing professional development activities and programs for full and part time staff including ensures probationary and annual performance appraisal.
Maintains a high level of performance through effective recruiting, developing, leading, and evaluating full and part-time staff.
Represents the academic area on some community college system and / or provincial or national professional committees such as TCA, MCA, OGCA, CIQS, OACETT, Gold Seal, Technology / Architecture sector councils, etc.
Negotiates contracts and / or MOUs with both internal and external stakeholders for services or program development / delivery.
Works with the division's Marketing and Communications department to establish strategies to promote programs and recruit students.
Other related duties as assigned.
What qualifications do you need for this role?
Master’s degree from a recognized-post secondary institution in Mechanical Engineering / Architectural Studies or a related discipline, with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture is required.
Minimum seven years’ progressive experience in the Engineering / Architecture industry.
Experience in a post-secondary educational setting is an asset along with prior work experience in a unionized environment.
Progressive teaching experience in relevant disciplines or content areas at the College level or equivalent with progressive experience in proactive academic leadership, innovation, management and business planning.
Ability to create, build and maintain effective relationships and working partnerships within the College and outside the organization.
Problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills as well as excellent judgment, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Commitment to student success in the School of Engineering Technologies and Architectural Studies and in supporting and developing faculty.
Demonstrated change management, budget management and project management skills,
Demonstrated leadership in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.
Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience and styles.
Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
